As is the tradition every year with many, I have made a resolution this year to reach out to you every month in the form of a blog to share my thoughts with you on the landscape we operate in, the dynamics that drive it and how we can collaborate to serve our customers better.
It’s pertinent to reflect on the last year as we think about the year ahead. 2023 to my mind saw India standing tall on many fronts, the IT Industry got wiser and brighter and we as a specialist tech distributor enjoyed a front seat watching this significant year unfold.
India’s propensity to use technology reflects in the fact that India is #1 in the world in terms of per capita data consumption. And this can be seen, amongst others, how this has fueled digital payments! Forty percent of the world’s real time transactions happen in India, more than the U.S and China combined. We are in very exciting times in India.
We at Technobind had our belief and passion around everything to do with data validated all through the year. The exponential rise in attack surfaces, the rapid adoption of AI – having it emerge from shadowboxing that preceded the buzz and the SaaS model becoming all too ubiquitous to my mind were key facets of 2023.
The global Software as a Service (SaaS) market size is projected to grow from $273.55 billion in 2023 to $908.21 billion by 2030, at a CAGR of 18.7%. As one of the brightest multi-disciplinary thinkers on the planet, Naval says: Either you are in the software business or Software eats your business.
And the related opportunity for us as sellers – Data Management. Backup is one area where we saw a lot of action this year yet again like in the last few years, and at the top this year have been SaaS applications where customers are investing to back up their Data on Microsoft365 and Salesforce. Our concerted campaign on SaaS application space did very well and we are glad to share, thanks to a large part because support from many of you partners out there that we have crossed over one hundred customers whose SaaS applications are being protected by Technobind’s solutions. This year will be even bigger. We have set ourselves a target of five hundred customers which is five times of our last year number, and this reflects in our belief of the inevitable “SaaS” ifcation of the market has its share of opportunities.
On the other side, the attack surface expanded rapidly, Security vendors worked at frenetic pace to scale with rising threats and are now offering detection, prevention, and remediation like never before. This is reflected in some of the new partnerships we announced last year with some state-of-the-art security players in the CTEM space.
The proliferation of API’s has put additional spotlight on all of us- the security OEM’s, you as partners and us as a distributor. As the proliferation of APIs continues, so does the risk of security breaches, hackers, and issues with your APIs. I am betting heavily on the API security space becoming the single biggest game changer this year.
And finally the pathbreaking DPDPA bill is a huge opportunity for us over the next couple of years. Most of us have benefited from the GDPR compliance norms which was still only an European regulation, but the DPDA is here right at home. My initial discussions with people who understand this bill well has been that this is going to be huge. One estimate is that Security spending will go up 2.5X just because of this bill and the associated compliance. We at Technobind are gearing up for this market opportunity and soon will try and share a mapping of the requirements of the bill to the required security implementation.
